Brief Background:
The rhizomes (underground stem) and stems of ginger have assumed significant roles in Chinese, Japanese and Indian medicine since the 1500s. The oleoresin of ginger is often contained in digestive, antitussive, antiflatulent, laxative, and antacid compounds.

Expert Opinion and Folkloric Precedent:
Reports on the beneficial effects of ginger date back to the 9th and 10th Centuries. In Asia, ginger has been recommended in the treatment of stomach aches, diarrhea, and nausea for thousands of years.
In modern times, ginger is often recommended to alleviate nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal discomfort. It is believed by some to increase gastric motility and cause absorption of toxins/gastric acid thereby modifying gastrointestinal reactions and feedback responsible for nausea.
