Arthritis and Rheumatism


3 cups oregon grape root

1 ½ cup black cohosh

1 cup ginger root


Use four to six tablespoons of the herb mixture per quart of water.  Add the herbs to cold water and bring to a slow simmer over low heat.  Keep pot tightly covered.  Simmer gently for twenty minutes.  Remove from heat and allow to infuse for another twenty minutes. Drink one-half cup of hot tea every two hours to induce perspiration.

Astringent Liniment


1 cup yarrow

1 cup shepherd’s purse

1 cup calendula

¼ cup cayenne


Cover the herbs with warmed vinegar and/or witch hazel extract and let the mixture sit for two or three weeks.  Strain and re-bottle.  This liniment will last indefinitely and may also be used as an astringent for muscular pains and aches.
